Day 29 - there is a season for everything
Today was my last full day here in Haiti. With all honesty, there were moments that this day couldn't have come any sooner but now that it is here this past month has come and gone in a flash. I knew the thoughts of this day coming quickly were fleeting and that when the time to leave was at hand, I would be content with my stay. In the beginning of my stay I found that it was adapting to the spiritual battle and evil spirits attempting to create a sense of fear and hopelessness in me. In the latter part of my stay, the thoughts of ready to leave were being found in times of the day that we didn't have any goals for the day or we couldn't leave the house. At all times I knew that the thoughts of discomfort were not coming from God but were either because I was not seeing what God is doing by a lack of focus or coming from the evil one who didn't want me here. I would like to first recap my last couple of days and tomorrow, if I have time between flights, I will spend more time on reflection through this past month and any future involvement with Haiti and/or with the relationships developed here.
FYI - I leave from port au prince tomorrow at 1pm for Miami. I leave Miami at 520pm for Dallas Fort Worth. I finally leave Dallas Fort Worth at 915pm for Denver.
Day 26:
Pastor Day, Dom, and myself left for onaville at 5am for the new church's first Sunday service. We arrived around 545am for the service time of 630am. An early service time but the only way to beat the heat. People began to show up just at 630am and the last arrived around 730am. No one was punctual but it was great to see around 20 people show up from the neighborhood, there was start time grace for the first service. I was the one appointed to give the message for the service and I was honored to do the first message for the church. I spoke on 1 Corinthians 13 "if we don't have love we have nothing" and Ephesians "to be rooted and grounded in love" as God blesses the area through the church. The message will have an effect on the foundation of the church so I wanted it to be very foundational but very central. The service had pure and warm worship and there was tangible love between one another, everyone involved seemed very pleased with the start.
After service Dom and I met with one of his friends. He calls her "mom" Deanna because she looks over dom and Kerby like their mother. She is a British spark plug, meaning, she is from London and gets things done with word and action, but in great love. We all went to the house Dom and I looked at last week to see how it could be used for future ministry. We spent hours at the house and I got to know more of her story and passions. She is a geeat lady who dreams even greater.
Day 27:
Monday was a very slow and relaxed day because of the manifestations. We only went to prayer in the morning and came back to the house after. We made the decision not to leave the house because of the distant gun shots and various places around port au prince where tires were being burned and riots were breaking out. No chaos from the manifestation came to close to us so we just relaxed with some sermons, worship music, Haitian food, and sleep. It was a good day over all because the manifestation didn't get out of control and we got rest that was needed.
Day 28:
This was the second day of the two day manifestation but this day was much better. There were still no cars on the road but there was also no gun fire so Dom and I hit the streets again. We spent the mid morning and afternoon playing soccer with a group of adolescents and visiting the gym nearby again. During soccer we got to buy water for all the kids and share with them why I was there. We found out many of them have there hope in Christ but only one was baptized so we talked about the importance of that to them. For the most part they were listening with eagerness and loved hanging around us. After we went to the gym and picked a weight up or two as we talked with the guys in the gym as some the soccer kids looked in the gym to see what we were doing. I was able to help some of the guys lifting and talked with the owner about other ways to create business and jobs for others through the gym.
In the afternoon we walked to the Shama guest house orphanage approximately a mile from pastor Day's home. We went to the orphanage because this is also were pastor Pierre's church is located. We went to see his service and observe what it is like. Once Dom and I got there we got to hang out with the kids and visit with our friend gary, the father of the family from the United States planting gardens for ministries. With about 20 min before service was going to start pastor Pierre ended up coming to me and letting me know he would like me to do the message. My reaction was first, "your kidding me" but he said the one who was suppose to speak isn't coming and he would like me to do it if I had enough time to prepare. Well, I thought, I have had less time this month to prepare a message and God gave me many words so I trust he will again, so I said, "yes ofcourse". I was asked to take my earrings out also because there are too many people in the congregation that would not receive me well with them in. This gives you an idea the task at hand with freeing the church from religion. This gave me a quick direction on a message for the church; in Christ, mercy triumphs over judgment. If we have received it then we show it, but if we dont show it, then we must ask if we have received it because of still trying to work for it. The message was recieved well and we got to meet many people in the congegration after. Dom did a great job translating the message and he was as fired up for the freedom the truth brings as I was.
Day 29, today:
Today pastor Day, Dom, and myself drove a couple hours north west of port au prince to see more of Haiti and some small villages along the road. I got to see the coastline in Haiti up close for the first time and the water was very blue and God brought much peace to the souls through the scenery of Haiti' landscape. I'm the villages they grew much fruit and they drove a hard bargain but pastor Day is no stranger to wheelin and dealin a fair deal. We left with an umbrella of bananas, some coconut, and some other round edible fruits.
Back at home Dom and I went over to the field to play soccer one last time with some new kids and visited our friend phillipe at the elite hotel to say our last goodbyes before heading out. Getting to see more of Haiti and saying a few goodbyes was a great way to spend my last day of this months journey here.
